Committees & Initiatives

Below are our committees and initiatives for 2023-24 supporting our Mission to build community through communication, socials, and partnerships.

If you are interested in participating or leading a committee or event, please complete the volunteer form under "volunteer" tab.  Thank you!

Communication:

Welcoming Committee/Activities/Events: The PTO is involved with three welcoming events at the start of the school year: tours for new students, back-to-school picnic, and Open School night. PTO members collaborate with RMS administration to welcome new families through these events. The back-to-school picnic is a PTO sponsored family social.

Welcoming Ambassadors: Ambassadors welcome new to district families as school is about to begin, and during the school year if they are a mid-year arrival. Volunteers can serve as a friendly face and a contact for questions and/or local resources. Ambassadors may also help at the back-to-school welcoming events. Some of the Ambassadors with multiple language skills are willing to share their talents and be a resource to new families seeking support with these languages.

Supporting PTO Facebook and Membership Toolkit website, other electronic communication: Answering emails, posting events and information on Facebook and website.

Online Parent/ Student contact information Directory: Online directory of students/parents so that families can communicate more easily with other RMS families to support their friendships.

Newsletter: Creating a PTO newsletter quarterly to update the RMS community of previous events and upcoming events and how to get involved in the RMS community to keep it strong.

Socials:

Parent/family Socials: Planning small gatherings for parents to get to know each other and build community at RMS. The first is the back-to-school picnic.

Socials supporting PTO: Socials at local restaurants or businesses that give a percentage back to PTO during social timeframe.

Partnerships:

Teacher and Staff appreciation: Organize multiple events during the year to celebrate and recognize our outstanding RMS teachers and staff. PTO will work with Student Council and Counselors to find way to celebrate our wonderful teachers!

Spirit Wear: Clothing and other items with RMS logo or name printed .

PTO Leadership Board: (president, vice president, secretary, treasure, committee leaders of any of the committees or initiatives listed, school administration) all volunteer positions that support the PTO's mission.

RMS "Lost and Found" support: At least quarterly visit to the Lost and Found at RMS to organize it, catalog the items in a slide show to be shared on PTO newsletter and Friday Focus, etc.

To participate in or oversee a committee or initiative, please email richmondmiddleschoolpto@gmail.com, or complete the volunteer form under the volunteer tab on this website.

Would like to start if of interest:

Q and A with IT and seasoned parents regarding Schoology/ Powerschool: parents who have been at RMS and/ or feel comfortable with Schoology and Powerschool share their knowledge (hacks) with parents new to these platforms through online or in-person sessions.

Small grants program: The vision for this program is similar to that at the Ray School and MCS, where teachers can apply for a small grant to cover a special program or project. This program would require fundraising to create an initial pool of money from which grants could be disbursed.

Thanks for all you do!
